Note: Until the end of the year I will be counting down my top favorite moments from this year.
All eyes where on California Chrome as he was making his first start outside of the US in the Dubai World Cup. However, the Horse of the Year would be facing 2 JPN horses (Hokko Tarumae and Epiphaneia), world traveler in Side Glance, a son of a Distaff winner (Long River), and Lea who when healthy was one of the top older males in the country. However Prince Bishop who had done well on the Meydan surface in the past would spoil the party and win the World's richest race. California Chrome finished in second and Lea was third.
Prince Bishop would be retired shortly after this race. California Chrome would be sent on trip to England where he would be pointed towards the Royal Ascot meet, but an injury would end his year. It set off a firestorm where Perry Martin his majority owner would buyout contrversial minority owner Steve Colburn and would sell minority ownership to Taylor Made Farm. He is expected to run next year at 5. Lea would finish second in the Foster, Dirt Mile and Woodbine Mile. He will be standing next year at Claiborne Farm.
