End of the Year Favorite Moments: #5- American Pharoah wins the Breeders' Cup Classic

Note: Until the end of the year I will be counting down my top favorite moments from this year.

Some people had gotten off the bandwagon. They felt that American Pharoah would run poorly in the Classic after his runner-up finish in the Travers. Keen Ice was improving and Frosted was coming off a win the PA Derby. Add in Honor Code and Beholder and everything was stacked against him.

However, a few days before the race Beholder was decalared out after she bled. Then the day of the race, Smooth Roller was scratched due to an injury. When the gates opened, Victor Espinoza took Pharoah where he liked to be right in the front. Effinex was his closest prosourer, but Mike Smith who was riding him for the first time didn't keep him close enough. American Pharoah would set a track record (even though there are not many mile and a quarter races run at Keeneland).
