They say that once an animal gets into your heart, it's hard to say goodbye. Shared Belief got into my racing heart. At first I wasn't a huge fan, as his co-owner was Jim Rome who I somewhat at the time disliked (it had to do with his time at ESPN where he was a bit annoying). However the more he ran, the more he grew on me. Plus as a gelding, we knew that he was going to be around for a few more years.
Sadly Shared Belief passed away today due to colic. From a division prospective, it leaves a huge gap in the Older Male division. This despite the fact that California Chrome, Effinex, Tonalist are all returning next year and the inclusion of Dortmund, Keen Ice and Frosted. From a heart standpoint, I'm crushed.
My prayers are being to Jim, Alex Solis II, Jerry Hollendorfer and everyone in Shared Belief's barn.
Here is my favorite race of his, the 2014 Pacific Classic
