With the Breeders' Cup now over, lets take a look at the horses who will very likely win this year's Eclipse Awards which will be handed out in January.
2yo Male
Nyqvist ran the table, simple as that. Not sure who will be other two finalists.
2yo Female
It's no contest, Songbird just ran away and hid in all of her races. Many people think she is better then some of the colts. Rachel's Valentina continues to live up to the pressure of being Rachel Alexandra's daughter will be a finalist and not sure who will be the third finalist.
3yo Male
There is no question, even if he hadn't won the Belmont history was his side as since 2003 every horse who had won 2 legs of the Triple Crown ended up with 3yo Male honors. Hence for that reason, American Pharoah will add to his 2yo Championship with a 3yo title. Keen Ice and Frosted will likely be your other finalists.
3yo Female
A few horses had chances to ice the title and none of them where able to get it done. Thus it is very likely it could go to a filly whose season sadly ended in July due to laminitis. Lady Eli would have been one of the favorites for the F/M Turf had she been healthy. Good news is that there is a great chance we will see her next year. I'm a Chatterbox and Stellar Wind your likely other finalists.
Older Dirt Male
This is going to between Honor Code and Liam's Map. The former beat the latter, but Liam won a BC race (Dirt Mile). I have no idea who the third finalist will be in what turned out to be an underachieving division.
Older Dirt Female
Another no brainer, even with Stopchargingmaria winning the Distaff. Pacific Classic win over males will propel Beholder to her 3rd Eclipse Award (already has 2yo and 3yo titles). Stopchargingmaria and Sheer Drama the other two finalists I think.
Turf Male
This is an enigma of a division. I'm thinking that Big Blue Kitten gets it by default. I have no clue who the two other finalists would be.
Turf Female
Can we have a 3 way tie? Tepin, and Stephanie's Kitten both won Breeders' Cup races, but Hard Not to Like beat both of them. I think Tepin has the slight edge as she defeated males over the other two. Euro Found won the Turf, but her record hasn't been as strong.
Sprinter Male
Runhappy with a young up and coming trainer came out of basically nowhere to take the Sprint division by storm. Private Zone and Rock Fall (RIP) for the other two spots.
Sprinter Female
Tradtionally, this award to the F/M Sprint winner, thus it should go to Wavell Avenue, but she hasn't had the best season. Not sure who the finalists would be in this division.
Horse of the Year
Rebel, AR Derby, KY Derby, Preakness, Belmont, Haskell, BC Classic. No one had a better season then American Pharoah. He was going to be HOY anyway, but the Classic win iced it. Sure there are people going to say "he didn't face Beholder", it's not his fault that she bled though. A no doubt Hall of Famer, and wouldn't be suprised unanimous HOY.
