New Stallions of 2016 (US)

It's that time of the year to start looking at stallions who will be entering stud next year. I have chosen a few horses who I think will be successful at stud. Please note all of these horses on this list are standing in the US. I will have one for the International Stallions coming next week. For now though, here they are:

American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile)

It's really hard not to mention new stallions and not mention the superstar that is American Pharoah. First horse in 37 years to win the Triple Crown, he added wins in the Haskell and the Breeders' Cup Classic in two of his final 3 career races. He will be standing at Ashford with fellow 2yo champions Uncle Mo and Shanghai Bobby. Coolmore has set up tours for fans to see Pharoah before the breeding season begins in February.

Honor Code (A.P. Indy)

Much like War Front and Hard Spun are the final two good racing Danzig's at stud, Honor Code marks an end of an era for his sire, AP Indy. The winner of the Remsen at 2, he had an off 3yo season before returning with a vengeance this year at 4. He won both the Met Mile and Whitney with a quick turn of foot in closing to overtake Tonalist and Liam's Map respectively. He ended his career with a pair of 3rd place finishes in the Kelso and Classic. He will be standing at Lanes End.

Karakontie (JPN) (Bernstein)

A bit of a unique case in the fact that yes he is a JPN bred, but he did most of his running in Europe and his sire (who has since passed away) stood in the US. Other then winning the Breeders' Cup Mile last year, he won the La Rochette, Jean-Luc Lagardère and French 2000 Guineas. What might make Karakontie stand out the most though is that his 3rd dam is the legendary Miesque. Thus a nice replacement for the now pensioned Kingmambo (a son of Miesque). He will be standing at Gainesway.

Liam's Map (Unbridled's Song)

Last year, Liam's Map won a small stake at Gulfstream against some solid, but not quite G1 company. This year he would almost win the prestigious Whitney after setting a hot pace, win the Woodward and wrap up his career winning the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile. Possibly the final good Unbridled's Song to enter stud, he'll be standing at Lanes End.

Palace Malice (Curlin)

A member of a group of 3yo's that included Orb, Oxbow and Will Take Charge, Palace Malice might have been the "black sheep". Although he won the Belmont and Met Mile (holding off Goldencents), injuries hampered his career in the end. He will be standing at Three Chimneys.

Summer Front (War Front)

The lone non G1 winner on this list, Summer Front is also one of the older new stallions this year. His biggest win was in the Ft. Lauderdale and also won the Hill Prince. He'll be standing at Airdire Stud.

Wicked Strong (Hard Spun)

A bit of an underachiever at 4, he still hit the board in the Woodward, Excelsior (which was won by Classic runner-up Effinex) and Jockey Club Gold Cup. He missed the top 3 in both the Met Mile and Dirt Mile. Last year at 3 won the Wood Memorial and Jim Dandy before just missing the Travers by a nose. He will be standing at Spendthrift Farm.
