Weekend Showcase: Dolphus doesn't disappoint

Bet down to from an 8/1 morning line to become the post time favorite, the Lookin at Lucky colt Dolphus sat fourth heading into the final stretch and turned back a challenge from Roman's Chance to win and break his maiden at first asking. Brian Hernandez Jr rode with Joe Sharp the winning trainer.

It has been a good year for Dolphus' female family. His 1/2 sister Samantha Nicole finally broke her maiden and their dam Lotta Kim had an Awesome Again colt. However, the biggest news on the year was that his other 1/2 sister Rachel Alexandra's two foals made their career debuts. Of course Rachel's Valentina would win the Spinaway and finish 2nd in the BC Juvenile Fillies. Meanwhile, although Jess's Dream would make one start what a start it was with a last to first finish at Saratoga.

Here's hoping that Dolphus does well on the Derby trail (would assume the Lacomte will be his first start of the season next year) and Valentina shows her mom's getting better at 3 side. As for Taco... can we say possible Woodward/Jockey Club Gold Cup winner if he stays healthy?
