Where are They Now?: 2007 Kentucky Derby

Note: This is a new series that will be posted twice a month where I will give updates on where graduates of a certain race are now, weather it be at stud/broodmare duty, second career or have passed away. Please note that some of this information may end being incorrect. If it is, please tweet to me at furlong drive (without the spaces of course) and I will have it fixed ASAP. Thank you.

Before the Road to the Derby in 2007, no horse had won both the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and Kentucky Derby in consecutive years. That changed when Street Sense won running down Hard Spun with the formally undefeated Curlin finishing in third. Those three would go 1-2-3 in Balitmore, but this time Curlin would win the race with Street Sense in second and Hard Spun in third. Of course Curlin would lose to the super filly Rags to Riches in the Belmont with Hard Spun in fourth and Street Sense skipping the race. While all three have had successful stallion careers so far, I thought it would be a good time to do an update on the entire field post Triple Crown. All horses are listed in finishing order:

Street Sense- After the Preakness, he would win both the Jim Dandy and Travers at Saratoga. He would end his career with a runner up finish in the Kentucky Cup Classic and an out of the top 3 finish in the Breeders' Cup Classic. As a sire, he has had G1 winners Aubby K, Sweet Reason, Wedding Toast and Hallowed Crown. He stands at Darley's Jonabell Farm and spent a year in Japan.

Hard Spun- A runner up finish in the Haskell was followed up by his lone G1 win in the King's Bishop. He would win the Kentucky Cup Classic and was runner up in the Breeders' Cup Classic. Like Street Sense he stands at Darley's Jonabell Farm and spent a year in Japan. As a sire, he has G1 winners such as Hard Aces, Zo Impressive, Hardest Core and an Eclipse winner in Questing. His foals also have success in Dubai (his son Maftool won this year's UAE 2000 Guineas and was second in the (UAE Derby).

Curlin- Finished 3rd in the Haskell, then won both the Jockey Club Gold Cup and Breeders' Cup Classic. That was more then enough to give him Horse of the Year honors. Unlike the top 2, he ran at 4 where he won the Dubai World Cup and defended him JCGC title which earned him highest earning North American horse of all time (taking the title from Cigar). He would finish his career with an out of the the top 3 finish in the Breeders' Cup Classic, but took Horse of the Year honors for the second year in a row. As a sire he already has a Belmont winner in Palace Malice, a Travers winner in Keen Ice and a BC Distaff runner up in Stellar Wind. He is also the sire of Curlalina who won 2 G1's this year. He was recently moved to Hill N' Dale after minority ownership was sold.

Imawildandcrazyguy- Won the Sumter at 4, according to Pedigree Query he is now a show jumper in New Jersey.

Sedgefield- English Channel's full brother stands at Jai Govind Stud in India.

Circular Quay- Followed up his LA Derby win, with a win in the New Orleans Handicap at 4. He now stands in Panama. As a sire, he has G2 winner Reporting Star,

Tiago- Won the Goodwood at 3 and the Oaklawn Handicap at 4. Also would finish 2nd in the Californian, Goodwood (at 4) and 3rd in the Classic (finishing ahead of Curlin). He now stands at Adena Springs KY where his 1/2 brother 2005 KY Derby winner Giacomo used to stand. He is the sire of G1 placed Viva Majorca. Update: Sadly Tiago was put down due to digestion issues this week (11/20/2015)

Any Given Saturday- Won the Haskell and Brooklyn before an out of the top 3 finish in the Classic to finish his career. Part of a powerful 4 pronged attack that was brought in by Darley for the 2008 breeding season (Street Sense, Hard Spun and Discreet Cat (who they had already owned) where the other three), he would end being a disappointment and was moved first to PA then sold to Korea. However, he does have a G1 winner in Hoppertunity and unlike the other 3 is a BC race winning sire with Mongolian Saturday (Turf Sprint).

Sam P.- Finished 3rd in the Northern Dancer in best effort post Triple Crown. Sadly, a court case overshadowed his career. Adopted thanks to New Vocations.

Nobiz Like Shobiz- Moved to the turf after the Derby. Won the Jamaica, Hall of Fame and Kent before finishing out of the top 3 in the BC Mile and Hollywood Derby. Standing at Crestwood where he is the sire of G3 winner Shogood.

Dominican- After beating Street Sense by a nose in the Blue Grass, he never won another stakes race. However, he did finish second in the Fayette and Hanshin.

Zanjero- Won the WV and Indiana Derbies at 3, as well as the KY Cup Classic at 4. Started his stud career at Millennium, before being sold to Turkish interests. He is the sire of stakes winner Johnny Handsome.

Great Hunter- Never finished in the top 3 in a stakes race again in his career. Believe he is standing in Venezuela .

Liquidity- Made one more graded stakes start and finished out of the top 3 in that race. Standing in Jamaica.

Bwana Bull- Finished 2nd in both the WV and IN Derbies to Zanjero. Whereabouts unknown.

Storm in May- Finished second in the Jack Dudley Sprint. Whereabouts unknown.

Teuflesberg- Won the Woody Stephens and was second in the Carry Back. Now standing in NY. Is the sire of BC Sprint winner and Eclipse Champion Sprinter Trinniberg.

Scat Daddy- Derby was career finale. Now stands at Coolmore's Ashford Stud. He is the sire of G1 winners Lady of Shamrock and Nickname among others. Update: Scat Daddy passed away in December 2015

Stormello- 3rd in the Woody Stephens which was his final race. Stood in KY before passing away in 2011 due to colic. Sire of stakes winner Rosengold and stakes placed Horse Laugh.

Cowtown Cat- Finished 3rd in the Timeless Native. Now standing in Ohio. Sire of stakes winners Calgary Cat and Cat Trap.
