We Forget about the Darkside

After the good vibes of 2015, we forgot that horse racing is still frowned upon in public eye by many.

Two horses, Homeboykris, a G1 winner in his own right, collapsed after winning Race 1and passing away. He was 9 years old. In Race 4, it was more heartbreaking. Praymedya who is owned by Lael Stable broke down and was euthanized. The race was ironically won by Lael's former trainer Michael Matz.

Fox News picked up on these two deaths right away and it was all over Facebook as well. My mom even mentioned it to me when where in our hotel room, even though by that time I had already known. In addition, under the Facebook trending section it mentioned that Kris was owned by Joe Torre (which at one point he did, but not sure if he had a ownership share in him on Saturday). People where ripping the former manager apart because of it. Of course the Preakness was also semi marred as Uncle Lino had to be vanned off.

Horse racing of course will never be back to the golden times, and Saturday certainly was a bruised ego for the sport. However, hopefully the necropsy results for Homeboykris will shine a light on what happened to him. Then again, many will give their own answer in the fact that he was too old to run.

Hopefully the next big day for racing which is Belmont day will go more smoothly.
